The Power of Prayer
There has been many times in my life where I have prayed, and not coming from an overly religious or spiritual family I don’t know what instilled it in me to do this. My father talked about God and the miracles he often received during hard times. I never doubted him for a second and I guess deep down I instinctively knew that my Father in Heaven could hear me and deliver me from my pain somehow.
Whenever I was faced with uncertainty I prayed that God would lead me to what was better for me even if it wasn’t what I wanted. If it didn’t “turn out” for me that only meant that I was destined for something better. People use to say “something better will come along”, but they never said it from a Godly place. I learned that on my own through teachings and believing in Gods word that he had a plan for me.
Sure I’ve prayed about something specific, but it was never “God if you give me…..I’ll never ask for anything again”. What I would ask was that “please help me through this lesson, please give me the faith and courage to go forward, and please put me on the path you have chosen for me and I will do as you will for me”. It was always followed with praise for everything he has done in my life; from the roof over our heads to the food on the table. I don’t take any of it for granted.
You don’t get the power of prayer until you have witnessed what it can do in your life until your prayer is “open ended” the way I explained above. Asking for something that actually isn’t in our best interest, doesn’t mean that we get it, or even if we do get it, doesn’t mean we will be doing what God has intended for us. It may make us extremely unhappy.
I can tell you I have spent too many years like that, unhappy.
I start my day off every morning with a prayer that I am used for whatever God intends from me today. I pray to him throughout the day, and also before I go to bed. I ask for forgiveness, for strength, for more blessings, for truth, for peace, for love and for grace to get me through. I ask for others as well and pray that he keep people safe, loved and healthy.
The power of prayer is so mystical sometimes that you see immediate results, which I have often had. I have prayed for signs, when at my lowest and received them within a few minutes. I have prayed about someone and had them call them instantly. I have prayed for truth and have seen it unfold. The blessings are all around us if we open up to them.
God wants to answer us, and he’s waiting for you to pray for love, not a selfish love, but a love that is compassion and peaceful for everyone. He will gladly answer you when you realize what he needs from you to ask for.
Here’s a wonderful link to a conversation between Oprah and Dr. Larry Dossey who talks about the Scientific proof of prayer and how we can start praying for more love in the world today! Enjoy!
